Winter this year has definitely provided outdoor enthusiasts plenty of snow to play in. If you aren’t into skiing, skating or sledding, have you ever thought of ice fishing? A frozen lake and a tool to carve a hole in the ice and you are good to go! Take a small road trip and head up to East Branch Lake in Elk State Park, PA to catch walleye, smallmouth bass and rainbow trout.

Ice fishing is no different than any other winter activity in the sense that you absolutely need to wear the best winter socks to protect your feet. You may think your boots are the only thing that matter but your socks are extremely important. A quality winter sock is invaluable when it comes to keeping your feet safe. A plain old cotton sock is actually a bad idea, as they hold moisture and have little insulation. This can lead to cold and frostbitten toes.

A sock made of wool, shearling, fleece or a synthetic material should be worn. They are typically thicker for greater insulation and wick moisture away from your feet. A thin sock liner inside this type of sock is the best way to keep your feet dry and warm. We have a few choices if you don’t know where to start looking. Check out Wigwam Canada Crew Socks, Bridgedale Endurance Trekker, Fox River Norwegian Crew Socks or pretty much any SmartWool sock.

At the end of the day, if your feet are having problems or foot pain is preventing you from enjoying sunny winter days, please contact Philip S. Pinsker, D.P.M. for diagnosis and treatment. Call our office in Washington, PA at (724) 225-7410 to make an appointment today.
