Like it or not, working out is often a necessary part of staying fit and healthy. Diet alone may not be enough to achieve your desired level of fitness. If you have been struggling to keep up your workouts at home, perhaps it is time to consider joining a gym. Celebrities such as Khloe Kardashian, Jordin Sparks, and Jessica Alba are often seen at them, and it may be the type of environment you need to whip yourself back into shape.

There are usually many options available, so how do you know which facility is best? For the most part, joining a gym will require an investment of your time and money, so choosing the right one is important. We’ve highlighted five things to consider when deciding which one will be best for you, so keep reading!

  • First of all, location is a key factor. Stick close to home, work or school. When your schedule only allows for a small window of time, you are apt to forgo the workout if the drive is too far.
  • Second is the cost. If you can afford the top of the line, then go for it. Most can’t, but there are usually great independent gyms that offer nice, clean facilities that will allow you to get the job done.
  • The third thing to consider is the type of members it has. Do you want a co-ed gym, or one that is only men or only women? Many people state that being in such an exercise environment can be intimidating, so find one that you feel comfortable at.
  • Fourthly, tour the gym and find out about the staff that will be available to you. Look for one that has trained staff members who can support you, guide you on the equipment if necessary, and help you get the most out of your workout.
  • Lastly, look for a gym that has a high standard of cleanliness. The last thing you want at the end of the day is a nasty fungal infection on your feet!

Are you someone who’s New Year’s Resolution hasn’t had the greatest start? You are definitely not alone! Many resolutions have great intentions and when they aren’t adhered to, guilt and disappointment can come in and stop your efforts even further.

Stop and take an assessment of your New Year’s resolution. Was it reasonable? Was it attainable given your lifestyle and resources? For many, resolutions revolve around getting active, eating healthier, losing weight and improving their lifestyle. Often though, goals are too lofty to begin with and they fall by the wayside. Change it up. Keep the same end goal but change the path of how you can get there and keep going.

If going to a gym seemed like a good idea but is not working out, skip the membership and join up with some friendswho can help you instead.
