A British shoe company has recently launched a shoe line called Boutique by Hotter, including styles of high heels that they describe as “fashionable and elegant – but best of all comfy.” Is it possible that high heels could actually be comfortable? You might have to try out these three-and-a-half inch heels with flexible soles and soft leather lining for yourself to test their claim.

Unfortunately, we don’t always treat our feet right by the shoes we choose to wear, and one complaint we hear often is that our patients suffer with heel pain. There are many reasons why you may have heel pain – your shoes, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, Achilles tendonitis, or a stress fracture. For many, the worst pain happens in the morning when your feet first hit the ground. The reason this happens is that muscles and ligaments in your feet have a chance to tighten up during the night, so when you step out of bed in the morning you are stretching them again, which could be painful.

Nighttime heel pain stretches can help avoid morning heel pain. Start with this one – sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front. Wrap an exercise band or a towel around the ball of one foot andgently pull it towards you. When you feel the stretch, hold for a few seconds before releasing and repeat 3-5 times. Switch to do the same on the other foot. Next try a wall stretch that will help stretch the calf muscle. This will also help with the tension in your feet. With both feet flat on the ground, put one foot slightly ahead of the other. Slowly squat down around 8 inches but be sure to keep both heels on the floor. Hold the stretch for around 30 seconds. You can also step on the edge of a stair and dip your heels down slightly for another foot and calf stretch.
