After a long day working, you may just want to curl up on the couch and relax.  But put that thought aside because getting physical activity daily is important – especially for your feet!  Not only is it important for your overall health, but is essential if you are suffering from diabetes

Lucky for you, Dr. Phil Pinskerhas some easy tips to keep your feet active.  They include the following:

  • Start slow. It’s important to get active, but it is also essential that you gradually work yourself into physical activity. You should increase your time commitment and intensity to eventually reach 30 minutes of physical activity on a daily basis.
  • Invest in flexibility. Stretching helps keep blood flowing throughout your body. Diabetes can cause a decrease in blood circulation, and so maintaining your flexibility is extremely important. You can conduct a series of stretches throughout your day and after all of your physical activities.
  • Stay active throughout your day.If you have a hectic schedule you may not have a consecutive 30 minute time frame to dedicate to exercise. This does not mean that you can’t stay active. You just have to find smaller amounts of time to get in exercise. Break up your routine into 10 or 15 minute intervals and work at them when you find the time in your busy schedule.

Diabetesputs your health at risk and affects your entire system. In order to keep the disease under control it is essential for you to remain active. If you are currently suffering from diabetes, contact our officeat (724) 225-7410 to schedule a foot examination with Dr. Phil Pinsker. Foot exams are FREE for diabetics during the month of November!
